WV Trucking Assoc. Offers Five Driving Tips for Distracted Driving Awareness Month
Charleston, W.Va. (April 8, 2016) – This month, the West Virginia Trucking Association, (WVTA) in partnership with American Trucking Associations (ATA) and their Share The Road highway safety program, is calling attention to Distracted Driving Awareness Month by offering advice and insight from elite professional truck drivers.
Distracted Driving Awareness month began in 2014 when the U.S. Department of Transportation noticed an uptick in distracted driving and sought to bring awareness to the issue. Now, organizations throughout the country who are committed to improving highway safety, like the WVTA and ATA, recognize Distracted Driving Awareness Month as an impactful way to bring attention to this cause, especially among younger drivers.
The West Virginia Public Service Commission (WV PSC) and other law enforcement officials have announced plans for an increase in targeted enforcement of seat belt usage through the national "Click It or Ticket" program through March 20th.
Law enforcement officers across West Virginia will begin patrolling our roadways and monitoring motorists' usage of their seat belt, which is a primary offense.
The West Virginia Trucking Association (WVTA) has always promoted safety and security on our highways and among our drivers. In fact, the WVTA was instrumental in getting the primary offense seat belt law passed by the WV Legislature in 2013.
Charleston, W.Va. (February 17, 2016) – The West Virginia Oil Marketers & Grocers Association (OMEGA), the West Virginia Trucking Association (WVTA) and the West Virginia Wholesalers Association (WVWA) all announced today their political action committees have endorsed Beth Walker for Justice of the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia.
“After careful consideration of the candidates in this race, it was clear to our associations’ members that Beth Walker will be an independent voice for the people and businesses of West Virginia,” said Jan Vineyard, president of OMEGA and WVTA and Executive Director of WVWA. “Beth Walker has the legal experience and judicial philosophy that will allow all parties with a case before our state’s highest court to have a fair shake. We are pleased to provide her our endorsements.”
WVTA and ATA Share the Road Professionals Offer Holiday Travel Tips
The West Virginia Trucking Association (WVTA), along with the American Trucking Associations (ATA) and the Share the Road highway safety program recently released a dozen safety tips for driving this holiday season.
With more than 99 million motorists expected to use our nation’s highways in the coming weeks, the WVTA and the ATA want to ensure everyone arrives at their destinations safely by being nice and not naughty on the roads this year.
“Safe driving is critical this time of year and there are many steps you can take to prepare for holiday travel,” said Jan Vineyard, president of the West Virginia Trucking Association. “Please take a minute to review our list of good highway safety habits before getting on the road this holiday season.”
Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the FAST Act, the long-term highway funding bill, by a vote of 359-65. The overwhelmingly bipartisan supported bill will bring billions of dollars to West Virginia for greatly needed highway and infrastructure projects. The U.S. Senate will be taking up the bill tomorrow and should be on the President's desk for his signature tomorrow night.
We'd like to thank each member of West Virginia's Congressional delegation for voting in favor of this bill: Rep. Evan Jenkins, Rep. David McKinley and Rep. Alex Mooney.
Below you will find a press release distributed by Congressman Jenkins' office that provides further detail on the bill's passage and also the estimated amount of funding West Virginia will receive from this legislation over the next five years. This is a major win for our industry and our state!
